This Monday the sad news of the death of Olivia Newton-John. The Australian singer and star of “Grease” died in his ranch in southern California at age 73.
The impact of his departure affected all the fans of the cinema and also of the film in particular, the one that in Last June it turned 44 years old since its premiere.
“Grease” is one of the funniest and most successful musicals that have been taken to movie theaters and managed to bring several of its actors to fame, however, after the wave of popularity they suffered, personal misfortunes were accumulating to a large part of the members of the Rydell Institute.

AIDS was merciless with several members of the cast of the film. One of them was the author of the original work, Warren Caseywho died in 1988 at the age of 53, and also Dennis Stewartwho in ‘Grease’ played the likeable bad boy Leo ‘Craterface’.
The actor Jeff Conaway, whom fans will remember as Kenickie, fell into the world of drugs, and once in a while revealed that he took refuge in them to combat a chronic pain problem.
In May 2011, he was found unconscious at his home and died a few days later due to a brain hemorrhage caused by an overdose of painkillers.
Three months later, actress Annette Charles, who played the sensual Cha Cha, died of cancer at her California home. For her part, Joan Blondell, who was the cafeteria waitress, died in Santa Monica on Christmas Day 1979, barely a year after the film’s premiere, also a victim of cancer.
Finally, the screenwriter of the film, Bronte Woodard, died in 1980, at the age of 39, a victim of kidney failure linked to the hepatitis he suffered from.
