Fire in Rome, Luca Barbareschi: “I saw two arsonists throwing petrol and setting fire to the brushwood. Gualtieri? It’s a city so rotten that every mayor ends up doing nothing”

“Saturday morning I was on the Casilina on a scooter with my son. I was taking him to a go-kart track over there. We were three hundred meters from the Gra, when I see a man running on the road and heading towards a bush. And, there, together with another standsthey vanished by throwing petrol and setting fire to the brushwood“. To tell it is Luca Barbareschi who revealed to Messenger this episode which he casually witnessed on Saturday 9 July in Rome: a scene that was the prelude to thefire of vast proportions which destroyed a large area in the neighborhood of One hundred cells. “But never – said the actor and director – would I have imagined seeing two arsonists. I stopped for a moment: I didn’t call the police, because I realized that other people were already on the spot and the firefighters were arriving. Then that wasn’t the only hotbed that burned here in the weeds. Maybe they must have others lit in one area, which should be cleaned up. And that it is a dunghill as all the center of Rome is becoming. Then I left again, also because I thought that everything would be resolved in a short time. Instead the strong wind animated those fires. Fuocarelli that normally would have been extinguished and contained without great damage. When I arrived at my destination, I turned around and saw a huge cloud of black smoke ”.

“It was all very fast”, Barbareschi explained again, admitting that he would not be able to recognize the two arsonists. “If I think about it now, the scene of that imbecile running through the bushes, throwing something on the weeds, breaks out a fire and finally runs away, I think, along with another one. It is so incredible that while witnessing similar events, you dwell more on a madman who risks his life to cross a busy street. Only later did I have to think that after years of “Romanelle” on the green and our parks, it is normal that everything is on fire. And I’m not justifying them! I read that someone has hypothesized a criminal director behind the fires. I don’t believe it. I think that we are faced with psychopaths, not mere idiots, who however move in a totally anarchic, ungovernable Rome. When the city is in the hands of the Casamonica or the gypsies who do their business on the cycle paths, everyone feels entitled to do everything. And decay calls decay. We come from twenty years of neglect. Indeed of administrative rot. It’s a city so bad that every new mayor ends up doing nothing“.
