Laylow, Lefa, Killing… Here are our favorite scripted clips

In recent years, whether it’s with the advancement of clip material, or simply with rapping expanding into many styles, music videos by rappers have also taken on a new level.

We have selected a few clips that stand out by their script:

Slowthai – I feel Away ft James Blake, Mount Kimbie

British rapper Slowthai surprised his entire audience with the clip Feel Away directed by Oscar Hudson. In his clip dedicated to his brother who died, Slowthai creates a whole scenario where he is “pregnant”. In this video, he is therefore in the hospital with what we guess is his companion, then he finds himself in the delivery room with her.

This clip is a real work of art by its originality, he had the idea before Lil Nas X to be a man in full pregnancy, and the featuring with Mount Kimbie and James Blake is really successful.

Laylow – Special ft Nekfeu and Fousheé

Impossible to make this selection without Laylow, the Toulouse rapper behind a real artistic direction in terms of clips. He has also produced many clips, including his own at the start of his career via his Digital TV page. In the clip, Laylow and Nekfeu find themselves like prisoners in an armored truck, they are moved like prisoners released from an asylum, and Fousheé with his flaming red hair comes to free them.

This clip is really impressive by first the scenario but also all the artistic direction whether it is the choice of places, plans, and colorimetry. Laylow stood out from afar with his album The Curious Case of Mr. Anderson. He managed to create his universe since the start of his career, but the visuals proposed for this project stood out.

Lefa – Smile ft SCH

Directed by Akim Laouar Aronsen, this clip of Lefa and SCH is part of the selection for a very well played scenario. The two rappers SCH and Lefa were the actors of this clip. A kidnapping, a death, SCH who smokes a cigarette like a gangster from classic films, here we return to the genius of French directors.

The shots are beautiful, the slow motions well chosen, and the actors other than the two artists also play very well, SCH played the game and in the end it’s quite rare to see rappers agree to lend themselves so much to the game of comedy . In any case it is validated, we strongly recommend for those who have not seen it yet.

Tuerie, emerging rapper from the Foufoune Palace collective, opened the dance in his latest EP Bleu Gospel with the release of the clip Tiroir Bleu, two days before the release of his EP. In this clip, the rapper confides in his childhood, witness and victim of violence, the clip speaks for itself.

We see a child who is a witness and victim of an alcoholic father, violent with his mother, and it is moving and breathtaking. The clip directed by Steven Norel, the director who was alongside Killing for the release of his EP, tells a story; and the disappearance of the child during the clip which introduces a second piece tells another story. Double clips, or double piece clips are always very interesting visually and this is the case in this announcing clip. Killing still has great things in store for us and we are waiting for the rest.

Vald – Personal Diary 2

After Personal diary released in 2011, Vald comes out Personal Diary 2 made by Kub & Cristo almost 10 years later. In this clip, he plays a murderer, a little psychopathic on the edges who makes his party to people in a gas station. But the clip is the story of a song that says a lot, indeed Vald is very engaged in his lyrics and shares his opinion on society in general, while being like Trinity in a leather jacket.

This clip is very well done and we even feel that Vald takes real pleasure in playing, who knows, we may see him in a future film, and he wouldn’t be the only one to deserve his place.

Orelsan came back strong this year, especially with the clip of the song The quest, between scenarios with modeling clay and with Orelsan himself, the clip tells a little about the story of his life, with his childhood and adolescent dilemmas and the clip is really original.

His music is refreshing, and his music videos are too. Directed by Victor Haegelin, the clip The quest is successful and the return of Orelsan with his album Civilization was a real success for the Norman rapper.
