In the episode of Saturday 8 October Donatella Bianchi arrives in Friuli Venezia Giulia. In fact, he reaches Trieste on the occasion of the 54th edition of the Barcolana. For the occasion, the city is transformed into European capital of sailing and the presenter tells i preparations and activities close to the regatta.
L’guest of honor of this edition is the Vespucci, considered the most beautiful in the world as well as the oldest Navy ship still in service. The sailing ship reaches over 100 meters in length and extends for about 15 meters and is characterized by 24 sails made of canvas. During the event will host numerous events on board.
The last edition of the Barcolana was won by the boat Arca Sgr of Trieste-based Furio Benussi.
Other parallel events are also planned. In fact, for the occasion, thearchaeological area of the Antiquarium of Via del Seminario andarchaeological area Paleochristian Basilica.
Linea Blu, the history of the Barcolana and the Sea Summit
Donatella Bianchi dedicates the episode entirely to the Barcolanainternational regatta which takes place this year from 1 to 9 October. It was born in 1968 at the behest of the Sailing Society of Barcola and Grignano and about 50 boats participated in the first edition (it was won by Piero Napp). Initially the full name of the event was “Barcolana Autumn Cup Regatta”. Over the years it is grown exponentially so much so as to become more and more international and with a substantial economic impact for the territory. THE participants indeed they come from all over the world.
The course of the regatta starts from line between Miramare and Barcola and after reaching some established buoys, the boats sail up to the Porto Vecchio Dam, where the finish line is located in front of the Piazza dell’Unità.
This year in particular the race will be even more exciting as the record presence of large sailing boats which are also very fast at the same time.
The presenter with the help of guests And testimonials deals with the important ones scientific research and the most up-to-date technologies in order to defend the Mediterranean. The projects are presented at Sea Summit, where researchers and innovators from all continents meet.
