Truth be told, not every “great” movie will appeal to everyone – and that’s okay. While some of these treasured films are perfect masterpieces for some, others can’t help but spot every flaw when watching them. While for some these are very entertaining movies, for others they are just plain boring.
From plot and characters to pacing and dialogue, many factors can impact a movie’s value. Thanks to Redditors, a massive list of supposedly low-rated movies — ranging from duneat Avatar— gathered for the entertainment of all.
‘Dune’ (2021)
Denis Villeneuveit is critically acclaimed adaptation of the American author’s epic 1965 science fiction novel Frank Herbert covers the first half of the book and introduces viewers to two new worlds. In the first part of Dunes franchise, a noble family is embroiled in a war for control of the galaxy’s most valuable asset.
A little like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Redditors’ main problem with Villeneuve’s film seems to be its slowness. Other than that, u/Trevantier adds that the movie felt empty, especially when it came to character depth.
‘Blade Runner’ (1982)
Although highly regarded, the 1982 film seems to be the least popular of the duology; at least by Redditors. Featuring Harrison Ford and Sean Youngthe film follows a blade runner (police unit) who must rampage and put an end to four replicants who have stolen a ship in space and returned to Earth during the 21st century.

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ (2008)
In this British crime drama, an 18-year-old boy from Mumbai (Dev Patel) is accused of deceiving The Indian Kaun Banega Crorepati? (an Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?). In order to prove his innocence, Jamal looks back on his life while telling his story to the police, explaining how he is able to answer every question correctly.

“The Shining” (1980)
Although some Redditors may not understand why, Stanley KubrickThe much-loved film is still considered a classic today. The film follows a family who travels to an isolated hotel for the winter and in the meantime finds a sinister presence (which influences the father, played by Jack Nicholsonin violence).
Quoting u/Munkythemokey’s extremely bold take, “everyone thinks it’s a horror masterpiece, but I find it slow and dumb. Nicholson was so poorly cast. I mean he was a psycho from the very first scene… It wouldn’t take ghosts to drive him crazy.”
‘Birdman’ (2014)
Michael Keaton puts himself in the shoes of a superhero actor trying to make a comeback and relaunch his career by directing, writing and starring in a Broadway production at Alexander G. Inarrituis a critically acclaimed satire. With stunning cinematography and brilliant acting, the Best Picture winner nevertheless divided people.

“Moonlight” (2016)
To everyone’s surprise, Moonlight takes place on this list. Focus on a young African-American man who struggles to find his identity and his sexuality until adulthood, Berry Jenkins‘The critically acclaimed masterpiece makes for a complex coming-of-age film and an excellent character study.
Nevertheless, some Redditors agree that Machester by the sea is a generally better movie. In the words of u/aslost3, “Moonlight was good, but I felt the narrative, characterizations, motivations and acting were superior and more complex than Manchester by the Sea.”

When asked what movie everyone loves, but Redditors hate on the platform, Avatar got 1.8,000 votes: “Beautiful visuals but unoriginal story” is a common interpretation of the movie. On another post, a now deleted account did not hesitate to express his anger towards the film: “I really can’t stand it. Every time I have to watch it, I have a little stroke.”
