Who is “Chuponcito”, the clown linked to the process for alleged sexual harassment

Comedy in Mexico has had great exponents who, over the years, managed to win the affection of the public thanks to their presentations on television programs or different cultural products, just as it has done José Alberto Flores Jandete, better known as “pacifier”.

Although the concept of his character evokes the traditional clown that has been interpreted and represented in different parts of the world, the fresh personality and particular voice of “Chuponcito” managed to captivate the attention of Mexicans during the first years of the 2000s, which led to his artistic career taking off little by little.

Despite this, the last few years the popular clown has been involved in multiple controversies after some of his ex-partners and women who have been in his work team pointed out that he had violated them by allegedly having exercised psychological violence and sexual harassment against them.

Huge shoes, makeup, colorful outfits with stars, a straight-haired wig and her unmistakable red nose have been some of the elements that have distinguished “pacifier”.

Nevertheless, the story of this character began in the streets of Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexicomunicipality where Alberto Flores Jandete is from, who was born on April 8, 1969.

Practicing Christianity, the beginnings of the popular clown were marked by shortcomings as comes from a humble home but hard-working people. In various interviews published on his social networks, “Chuponcito” even reported that the first time he characterized himself was at the age of seven, just one year after his mother abandoned him.

Although comedy was always part of his life, local media have pointed out that before becoming a one of the most famous clowns in Mexico, José Alberto was a carpenter, bricklayer, worked in a pharmacy and was also a driver.

Once he decided to make comedy his profession, José Alberto Flores searched for a stage name that would distinguish him from other colleagues on the scene; That’s how he came up with the idea of ​​naming his character “Chuponcito” because during his childhood the circles closest to him used to give him nicknames for his short stature such as “bodoque, pacifier, pool plug” etc.

Although at first his work as a clown led him to appear in circuses and children’s parties, his humor evolved at the same pace as his artistic career Focusing for a couple of years on an adult audience that enjoys the unique character and personality of “pacifier”.

After their shows captured the attention of the public in their place of origin, the popular clown was invited to participate in different programs on Mexican televisionamong which stood out the morning entertainment Is it fair where it even had its own section.

In the same way, “Chuponcito” had spaces to work on television programs with a high number of viewers such as Today either War of jokes. The success of the popular clown was so great that it even led him to have his own circus with which he toured throughout the Mexican Republic.

In the year 2020, Barbara Estrada -ex-partner of José Alberto Flores- filed a lawsuit against the comedian for the crimes of sexual abuse and extortion, this as a result of the alleged perpetrator forcing her to send him nude photographs and then threatening to make the images public once their relationship ended.

He also mentioned that the comedian forced her to have sex despite the fact that, according to his statements, he has the human papillomavirus, a sexually transmitted disease.

Added to the accusations were the testimonies of Ivonne Luevano -ex-dancer of the “Chuponcito” show- who pointed it out sexually harass her conditioning his permanence in the job in exchange for her agreeing to go out with him.
