DC: James Gunn makes the announcement that all Harley Quinn fans have been waiting for

James Gunn has just made an essential announcement concerning the possible return of Harley Quinn to the cinema. Until now, Margot Robbie’s fate in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) was very uncertain. Even the actress did not know yet if she was ready to resume the role of the famous anti-heroine. Obviously, according to James Gunn, this iconic character will return.

Harley Quinn turns 30

On September 13, the famous Harley Quinn celebrated her 30th birthday. Indeed, this iconic DC comics character was created in 1992 by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. She made her very first appearance on September 13, 1992 in the unique and irreplaceable Batman the Animated Series. Initially wearing a harlequin costume, she presents herself as the Joker’s assistant/lover. The protagonist is so popular that she is later incorporated into the pages of the comics.

At the movie theater, she has been played by Margot Robbie since Suicide Squad in 2016. She then returned twice, in Birds of Prey and in The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn. Until recently, it was unclear what future Margot Robbie and Harley Quinn would have in the movies. There are quite a few projects on fire like joker vs. harley and Gotham City Siren, but these seem to be moving in slow motion. So much so that it is now difficult to know whether these two projects are still really relevant or not.

James Gunn confirms Margot Robbie’s return

To celebrate Harley Quinn’s 30th birthday, filmmaker James Gunn took to his Twitter account to share a small tribute to the character of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. Inevitably, many fans asked him if Margot Robbie was going to return to the skin of the psychopath. His answer could not be clearer, although very limited: “yes”. A user then specifies that he would be delighted to see her again at the cinema. To which James Gunn responds: “only once?”.

Details that should reassure the public, worried following the declarations of the actress this summer, affirming that she was not certain to return to the costume of Harley. For the moment however, it is not yet known in which DC project the actress will be called back to. Especially now that Warner is in the midst of rebuilding its DC Universe (once again). In any case, Margot Robbie has a very busy schedule since she will soon be appearing in amsterdam by David O’Russell, babylon by Damien Chazelle and Barbie by Greta Gerwig. As for Harley Quinn she will be soon played by Lady Gaga in Joker: Madness for two by Todd Phillips.

Harley Quinn debuted 30 years ago today – September 11, 1992 – on Batman: The Animated Series. Thanks to @Paul_Dini & Bruce Timm for creating this wonderful character I find an absolute joy to write, direct, & create stories for. #HarleyQuinn pic.twitter.com/b1uP6HBx46
