Games with Gold: free games for August 2022

The selection of Games with Gold is not surprising even in August, being composed of products aimed at specific niches of gamers and certainly unable to impress an audience as wide as that of Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Microsoft also has reached the maximum limit of retro video games available on the platform, therefore we are not surprised to see two classics that had already been given away in the past: Saints Row 2 was already part of the selection in June 2020, while Monaco: What’s Yours is Mine even in September 2014. For this reason, starting from Xbox 360 games will no longer be part of Games with Gold next October. Before going to discover the news of August, however, we would like to remind you that you still have some time to redeem some of the Games with Gold of July 2022: Beasts of Maravilla Island and Torchlight will remain available until July 31, while Relicta until August 15th.

Calico (Xbox One and Series X | S) – August 1st to 31st

The first of August’s Games with Gold has one, simple goal: to make you feel safe by offering a creative and relaxed environment where you can play and explore without any pressure. Calico it is in fact a community simulator that entrusts you with the adorable task of rebuilding the village cat café and crowding it with lots of cuddly creatures.

As your virtual alter ego – freely customizable thanks to the character editor – you will travel in a village full of magical girls, where you will be given a run-down cat café. You will have to bring it back to life by filling it with cute furniture, cute decorations, delicious pastries and, of course, animal friends. During your adventure you will meet many interactive creatures, which will follow you everywhere obeying your orders. You can also send them to the cafeteria, where they can relax and play with customers.

ScourgeBringer (Xbox One and Series X | S) – August 16 to September 15

Developed by the authors of NeuroVoider, ScourgeBringer is a roguelite platform halfway between Dead Cells and Celeste that offers lots of action and great freedom of movement. The adventure is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been thrown into chaos by a mysterious entity.

As Kyhra, the deadliest warrior of her clan, you must explore the depths of an ever-changing keep and break through ancient machines that protect the seal of her past, and perhaps even humanity’s redemption. All this, taking advantage of a hectic combat system based solely on attacks to defeat tough enemies and huge bosses.

Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360, One and Series X | S) – August 1st to 15th

A little less than a month after the launch of the new Saints Row, which stands as a reboot of the franchise, Microsoft takes a big leap into the past by offering subscribers Gold Saints Row 2. At the time of its release, in 2008, the series had not yet embraced the crazy, exaggerated and over the top drift that then characterized the episodes from the third onwards, but this Saints Row 2 can be considered anything but sober.

The open world sandbox of Volition’s production can be approached in a totally free way, since you can choose to explore Stilwater by land, air or sea. The character is totally customizable with regards to gender, appearance and clothing, while the campaign offers over 40 missions to which are added a multitude of secondary positions.
