Justice for Andrea Carolina: Heriberto, her femicide, was sentenced to 48 years in prison

After spending 19 months in prison, Heriberto Grajeda He was sentenced to 48 years in prison for the femicide of Andrea Carolina Osuna Gilwhom he shot and later burned with the intention of disappearing all evidence of the crime.

This was announced by the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE) after two weeks of having started the trial against the femicide. On November 4, the institution declared Heriberto guilty and it was on November 10 that the sentence was handed down, so he will remain behind bars until the age of 90.

Andrea Carolina Osuna Gil was reported missing on March 18, 2021 in the municipality of Guaymas, Sonora. That day she went to visit Heriberto, who was her partner and would become his femicide. Hours after leaving home, her family lost all contact with her.

After a few days of searching, on April 3, 2021, personnel from the Public Ministry, elements from the Ministerial Agency for Criminal Investigation (AMIC) and personnel from Expert Services found charred bone remains at kilometer 2+500 of the section of the San José de Guaymas-Empalme bypass, behind the San Judas chapel.

Thanks to the human fingerprint rehydration work of the Forensic Scientific Intelligence Laboratory (CIF), it was possible to identify that the remains belonged, precisely, to Andrea.

After getting rid of the belongings that she was carrying that day, she moved her body in a vehicle to the outskirts of the municipality of Guaymas. There, among her undergrowth, she set it on fire and abandoned her.

“In the investigation folder it was found that on March 18 the victim visited Heriberto “N.” at her home, in the Centro neighborhood, after arguing the subject hit her, then took out a firearm and shot her to deprive her of life, ”can be read in the statement issued by the Prosecutor’s Office.

On April 4, 2021, one day after the remains were found, Heriberto “N” was arrested and admitted to the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) from Guaymas. The next day, the authorities linked him to a trial for the femicide crime.

Before the conviction, the family of Andrea Carolina recognized that, although she will not return, it was necessary to fight to obtain justice.

“They gave us justice, I am devastated, I am dead in life, because nothing can bring me back my little girl, but the case does not go unpunished, they gave us justice, because they changed the corrupt judges, who only gave us long”, he shared Andres OsunaAndrea’s father, to the local press.

“To my daughter, nobody returns it to me anymore, she fell in love with a psychopath,” she added in relation to the violence that Andrea experienced during her almost six-year relationship with Grajeda Luna.

On the other hand, one of Andrea’s nieces, Daniela, wrote a message on social networks in which she assured that, after the conviction, the family could regain peace of mind.

“Thank you my God, finally, after 1 year 7 months and 17 days, today Justice was finally done. Aunt Andrea Osuna fly high butterfly, your name will never be forgotten, your laugh, your phrases, your face. Nothing will give us back the piece of our soul that left with you, however today we can finally breathe”, can be read in the message, which culminates with the slogan, verbatim, “LET THE FEMINICIDE FALL WITH STRENGTH”.
