The leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, was so ruthless as a capo that when necessary he showed his ability to act with cold blood, and in some cases, even with a bit of irony.

This was evidenced by one of the cooperating witnesses who participated in the judgment of the century against Guzmán Loera, carried out in the Federal Court of the District of Brooklyn and that concluded in July 2019.

Is about Miguel Ángel Martínez Martínez, alias “el Gordo” or “el Tololoche”who was the pilot and right-hand man of the capo in a period of 12 years (from 1986 to 1998), and the second witness of the Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the story of “El Gordo”, at least four times he was about to die due to different attacks against him. However, the one that attracted the most attention was the last one, when “El Chapo” had him killed in a prison, and with a serenade included.

After suffering three assassination attempts, Martínez Martínez was transferred to the South Men’s Preventive Prison in Mexico City.

The night before the attack, “El Gordo” declared that outside the prison he heard a song performed by some mariachis. The gang was outside the prison, as if someone had been taken to serenta. “They were playing a song that Mr. Guzmán liked a lot (…) and they started playing it over and over again… about 20 times”, he recalled at trial.

“El Gordo” stated that they played the song until three in the morning. It was the song “Un Puño de Tierra”, composed by Carlos Coral and performed by great icons of norteño music such as Ramón Ayala and Antonio Aquilar.

The day I die, I’m not going to take anything with me, you have to give pleasure to taste, life soon ends”, reads one of the verses.

The next morning, a hitman broke into the prison and managed to get to “Tololoche’s” cell, threatened the guard and threw two grenades into the dungeon where the former “El Chapo” pilot was being held.

However, “Tololoche” managed to take refuge in the bathroom, where there was a fence, throwing himself “head backwards”, according to his testimony, and in this way he was able to save his life.

According to the psychological profile of Guamán Loera, prepared by the criminologist Mónica Ramírez, the capo does not like to be called Archivaldo, because he considers it a very long name; instead, he appreciates being called “Joaquín”, he is addicted to women and likes to talk a lot. He has a personality trait that makes him very respectful of the matriarchyin which his grandmother and his mother, Consuelo Loera, have a very marked influence.

“He is not a psychopath. Has psychopathic traits and narcissistic traits that are reflected in a need for admiration, to feel unique and special”, Ramírez expressed to Infobae in 2019, and added that he always feels proud to say that he got up at 05:00 to go to the plantations and laboratories to organize his people and how he ended his day until 11:00 p.m. or 12:00 a.m.

In 2015, the newspaper The country of Spain revealed a old psychological report prepared by the then Mexican Attorney General’s Office.

“Only pull the trigger when it can do the most damage. He is a cold-blooded animal with a complex mind who worships, above all, power.”, the report stated.

The co-founder of the bloodthirsty Sinaloa Cartel “he is tenacious and his feeling of inferiority is reflected in an expression of intellectual superiority and inordinate ambition for power”.

The report detailed a harsh childhood, allegedly He was mistreated by his father and lived with a complex due to his short stature (hence the name Chapo).

“He has a need for leadership, control the environment and is obsessive, but measured in his vindictive acts,” the document added.
